Stuckness in Contrast Modeling

Understanding the two forms of stuckness—and why only true shifts lead to emergence.

Stuckness in Contrast Modeling

Not all stuckness is the same. There are two main types:

1. Stillness Stuckness

  • You know the tension, but nothing moves. Paralysis, indecision, avoidance.
  • Example: Feeling blocked and not acting at all.

2. Active Stuckness

  • Looks like you’re making moves (changing jobs, routines, stories), but the core tension stays put.
  • Common signs: new setting, same pattern. Tweaking the surface, but not what’s underneath.

Key Test:

Has the real pattern, tension, or field shifted? If not, you’re still stuck—even if things look busy on the surface.
